The thing is, many people don’t now how to best use LinkedIn to promote themselves and connect with others without coming across as a spammer.

The way to use LinkedIn, as with other marketing, is to establish yourself as an expert in your field. But how do you do that?

By having the perfect profile, linking with groups, and providing great and useful information . But I’m not yet an expert in using LinkedIn, in fact although I’ve been on there for a while, I haven’t really used it that much.

LinkedIn Training Course

As I’ve mentioned in other posts, PLR is great, because it is pre-written and just requires a little tweaking to get your own message across.

What I like about this Offline PLR Package is that it is very informative and because I wanted it for a Mobile website, I’m not too bothered about duplicate content. This morning I showed the Mobile website to a client and he commented on how good and informative the articles are, and within a couple of  hours, I had a telephone call from someone that my client knows, who had shown the articles too! Bam a new client.

I would highly recommend this Mobile Marketing Offline PLR package – and it’s less than $10 for 20 articles and 5 banner ads, in photoshop and jpg format.

However, there are some very simple steps that you can take to secure WordPress websites, and here they are.

1) Always have the latest version of WordPress.

The guys at WordPress have made it extremely easy to upgrade your WordPress website. Simply click the link at the top of your dashboard and it only takes a few seconds, so there is no real excuse for not keeping your website up to date!

2) Do not use admin as your main login username.

When you initially install WordPress, either using fantastico on cpanel, or any other method, DO NOT set your username to admin. This is the default user name and probably 90% of WordPress users use it, therefore making it extremely easy to guess the username!

The main admin username cannot be changed from within WordPress, once it has been set. If you have already got your WordPress website up using admin as the main user name, you will have to change it in the database using phpMySQL.

3) Remove unnecessary files.

Once you install WordPress, there are a few files that are no longer needed, but are left on your server. These files can make it extremely easy for hackers to get into your website, so make sure you delete them from your server. The main ones are:

readme.html located in the public_html folder.

install.php located in the wp-admin folder.

install-helper.php located in the wp-admin folder.

4) Move wp-config.php to your server root folder.

The file wp-config.php contains your WordPress database user name and password. By default it is located in the public_html folder, and can be easily accessed by hackers. The first thing to do is make sure that it’s permissions are set to 600, this makes it so that it cannot be run from outside of your website, ie by hackers.

The second thing to do is move the file to root folder of your server. You can do this using either your servers cpanel (if it has one) or via an FTP program like Filezilla. By moving it to the root you will make sure that hackers cannot access it.

Side note: I have had a problem doing this in that when I moved it and revisted the website, I started getting error messages. This is caused by some FTP programs adding blank lines to the file when it was moved. If you have the same problem, just edit the file in your cpanel or FTP program and remove any blank lines after the ?> at the end of the file.

5) Remove the error message from your login page.

An easy way for hackers to find out your username is via the error message that appears on the the WordPress login page when an incorrect username or password is entered. For instance, if someone goes to your login page and uses the username admin but gets the password error message, they are already half way to finding out what your login details are!

An easy way to correct this is to remove the code that generates the error message altogether. To do this use your cpanel file manager or FTP software to find the following code in file wp-login.php, in your public_html folder.

if ( !empty($messages) )
echo ‘<p>’ . apply_filters(‘login_messages’, $messages) . “</p>\n”;

You can safely remove red line above, and this will remove any messages that might appear if a wrong username or password is entered. Alternatively, you could change the code between the dots to something like “Login failed, please try again”, like this:

if ( !empty($errors) )
echo ‘<div id=”login_error”>’ . “Login failed, please try again”. “</div>\n”;
if ( !empty($messages) )
echo ‘<p>’ . apply_filters(‘login_messages’, $messages) . “</p>\n”;

This way, hackers will not know whether it is the username or the password or both that are incorrect.

One thing to note about WordPress website security is that each time you upgrade to a newer version, you will need to redo these tasks again, which is a bit of a pain, but the few minutes it takes to do is worth it when compared with rebuilding a hacked website!

Having said that, having to redo the above steps every time WordPress is upgraded brings you a great opportunity to make money.

You see, there are a huge amount of small businesses that use WordPress for their business. Some of them may be in your local area. If you use the methods outlined in this great WordPress security package, you can have these business owners paying you to create their secure WordPress websites!

Get WordPress For Fan Pages and Make Money From Business Owners

If you have been in Internet Marketing for a while, you will know that a great way to make money in niche markets is by using the power of WordPress to quickly create websites and then monetise them with either affiliate products or your own product, and then drive traffic to them.

This is a great way to make money on the Internet.

On Facebook, you can do the same by monetising a Fan page, and building a following of active fans. You can even create customised pages that show your offers directly off Facebook, using FBML (Facebook Markup Language).

If you combine the two, by using Facebook to drive people to a WordPress website, you can create a very powerful system for making money.

But, due to recent changes on Facebook, FBML is no longer an option for setting up custom pages, so what’s the solution?

Facebook is making iframes available for custom pages and this actually allows us to have more scope in what you can  put in the custom pages, the only thing is that you now need to have your own hosting, to host the pages that will be served to the Facebook iframes.

You also maybe think that you need website design skills to create these pages, which puts many people off of doing them.

But there is also another way of using PLR products for maximum profits. You see, alot of the information provided in PLR ebooks can just as easily be sold offline as it can online. The only difference is that you will have to create hard copies of the ebook to sell to people offline. How do you do that?

As long as the ebook is not to long, you can go to your local printers and have them run off a number of copies for you. The cost of this depends on the printing service of course, but in general you will usually find that the more copies you have printed, the less individual copies will cost you. You may also be able to negotiate a better price by offering the printers advertising space on the rear cover!

In most cases I would recommend having the ebook comb bound with a hard cardboard front and rear cover. Again this usually isn’t to expensive, but adds to the quality of the finished product.

Once you have your books printed you will need to sell them. Where? Well there are flea markets, car boot sales, church or school fetes and a load of other places you can sell them. You could enlist the help of a local book store, most will help sell your book for a small commission.

What kind of PLR product will sell best offline? Personally I would go for self help, how to, money saving or saving the environment books. These are subjects that most people are interested in.

This is just a simple idea for using PLR products offline, with just a little creative thought I’m sure you can come up with many others.

1.    CPA networks. These are networks that pay a commission on a visitor taking some kind of action, like buying a product or signing up for a free offer. Joining one of these networks you can offer visitors to your portal website products or services that are outside your local area but of interest to your local visitors.

2.    Very similar to CPA networks, affiliate marketing allows you to offer your visitors with products or services that may interest them. For instance, if you take a look through the Commission Junction Marketplace you could find products or services that you know will be of interest to people in your local area.

3.    It’s long been known in the Internet marketing world that Private Label Rights products is a lucrative way of making money online. However, choosing the right products you could use PLR to make money from your local website visitors. As an example you could find a PLR product about green living, a subject close to many peoples hearts, and sell it via your portal website.

4.    JV brokering. As the owner of the portal website you will come into contact with many local business owners and many of these owner, who by the way will know very little about marketing their business, may have complementary products or services that they could offer to each other customers. By being the middleman in bringing these business owners together, you can charge a fee to bring about these Joint Ventures.

5.    Provide a website design and marketing service. Getting a portal website to rank highly in the search engines isn’t a difficult task. Using minimal Internet Marketing skills you can easily get your portal to rank well, and the good news is that it isn’t very difficult to do the same for local business owners. Even better you don’t need to do it yourself, using what you have learnt in the Internet Marketing arena you can outsource most of the tasks required, including website design, article writing and direct response marketing. You simple become a project manager, taking a large cut of the profits for yourself.

Owning a town or city portal website opens up a huge amount of opportunities for anyone with minimal Internet Marketing knowledge to make money in many different ways.
